The Medical Devices Software team is building a revolutionary imaging device service platform. This platform uses various kinds of cameras in order to close medical gaps. The imaging system mixes commodity electronics and computer vision and machine learning solutions. As a Machine Learning Pipeline Software Engineer on both our backend/cloud and device software teams, you’ll be working in collaboration with Google/Verily teams to help develop and productionize models and tools for disease diagnosis and treatment determination. Our team supports multiple Verily projects, so this role provides an opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of unique products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be part of the product teams translating advanced ML research into innovative and applied on-device ML Software as Medical Device (SaMD) products, with GPU and TPU technologies.
  • Actively participate in scoping requirements, ML pipeline design and development, (on-device) ML model development, evaluation and validation.
  • Work as an independent ML software engineer through the entire cycle of SaMD productionisation under regulatory and quality management processes.
  • Work closely with data science, UX, hardware, application and software engineers to create highly integrated novel products.
  • Collaborate with teammates across the Medical Devices Software organization to advance our development practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field and equivalent practical experience with 3+ years of software development experience.
  • 3+ years of machine learning pipeline experience, familiarity with machine learning model development lifecycle, including study design, data collection and annotation, model development, model validation and rigorous statistical analysis.
  • Experience with programming and scientific computation using Tensorflow/PyTorch and Python.
  • Willingness to learn/grow, and respectfulness that allows colleagues to do the same.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with GPU-based technologies like CUDA, TensorRT, OpenCV, or ONNX, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with building and deploying computer vision and on-device machine learning on bespoke devices. Experience of interfacing with cloud-based computer vision solutions is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud deployment technologies: Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform or other cloud providers.
  • Experience with IoT product solutions is a plus.

Behavioral science is a core differentiator for Verily. The success of our products hinges on how effectively we enable individuals and their care providers to make the right decisions about managing their health.

As the BSci expert within the Verily Health Platforms team, you will lead the way in finding innovative, effective, and scalable ways to influence behavior in ways that improve health outcomes. You will work with product teams on developing programs and tools for initiating and sustaining healthy behavior change. Using your background in behavioral science, you will inform the design and marketing of our products through the delivery of insights based on data collection and behavioral research. This position requires creative and interdisciplinary thinking, crossing academic silos to create innovative and effective solutions for engagement and healthy behavior changes.

In this role you will work in a highly collaborative environment with designers, engineers, writers, product managers, clinical experts, and other stakeholders. As the primary advocate for behavioral science, it will be your responsibility to ensure that our products bring together behavior change insights to help people improve their lives and help solve some of the toughest problems in healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross functional teams to apply behavioral science principles to product design, content development, data collection and analysis, and product strategy.
  • Build and communicate to the organization a rigorous understanding of behavior change methodologies and implementation strategies within the health care setting.
  • Scope, prioritize, advocate for, and execute on design experiments, data collection efforts, and analysis plans to measure and improve our behavioral strategy.
  • Understand and incorporate complex technical, clinical, and business requirements into research and advocate user-centered thinking to product teams successfully.
  • Develop and lead behavioral science training for designers, content creators, product owners, and engineers.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in Behavioral Science/Economics or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in applying behavioral science insights and experimental research methods to building products or services, preferably in healthcare.
  • Background or experience working as a UX designer or UX researcher.
  • Ability to translate academic work into digestible and actionable insights for cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative roles that requires ongoing relationships with research, design, engineering, analysis, and product.
  • Experience building things from scratch and working in a highly ambiguous environment.
  • Experience applying behavioral science in the health domain.
