Overview / Job Description

The clinical risk manager is the Patient Safety Officer.  S/he is responsible for the facility’s risk management activities which include assisting with the management of general and professional liability claims against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, interfacing with CHS Risk Management, Quality & Resource Management and Legal Departments, administering the clinical risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, facilitating systems analysis to promote & improve patient safety, conducting and facilitating risk management educational programs based upon availability and identified needs, completion/coordination of Leapfrog survey activities, and compliance with the Joint Commission’s standards relating to risk management & patient safety.  These responsibilities are performed at the direction of the QMRC Director and/or CQO. The clinical risk manager participates in formulating policy or organizational changes but must seek advice and approval from higher authority for same.

Education: Nursing or other clinical healthcare license/degree.

Experience: Minimum of one year in an acute care facility, with a clear working knowledge of general hospital operations. Acute care experience is essential and non-acute care experience is preferred.  Adept at interpersonal relations including oral and written communication.

Licenses/Certificates: Holds a current license in the state of TN as a registered professional nurse or other clinical healthcare professional. Encouraged to have a CPHRM and/or an ARM designation. BLS Certification required.
