Client service intern positions are entry-level and job seekers are traditionally either in their 3rd year of a 4 year degree program or in the 4th year of a 5 year program. Client service interns typically join us during the winter/spring or summer prior to their intended graduation year.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrates some abilities and/or a proven record of success with identifying and addressing client needs by:

  • Demonstrating the ability to acquire knowledge base and become a specialist in the substantive tax law;
  • Developing deep technical specialization in the taxation of debt instruments, securitization transactions, derivatives, foreign currency and financial institutions;
  • Developing supporting knowledge base dealing with the taxation of corporations, partnerships, consolidated groups, corporate bankruptcies and insolvencies, reorganizations, inbound and outbound international taxation, as well as tax accounting methods and the practice and procedural aspects of the Internal Revenue Code;
  • Demonstrating ability to understand the underlying economics of complex financial transactions to differentiate treatment for tax, financing reporting and regulatory purposes;
  • Having proficiency in tax legal research and ability to synthesize multiple authorities into a coherent statement of the law;
  • Demonstrating thoughtful, clear and concise writing style both for objective analysis as well as advocacy pieces;
  • Understanding the quantitative / mathematical aspects related to capital markets and the taxation of financial transactions; e.g., working with large, complex data sets to build models and leverage data visualization tools; proficiency in Excel, Alteryx, and Tableau desired;
  • Assisting in the management of multiple clients by initiating progress reports to Managers regarding substantive issues, impending deadlines, and engagement economics proactively;
  • Identifying and addressing client needs: actively participating in client discussions and meetings;
  • Communicating a broad range of Firm services;
  • Managing engagements including preparing concise, accurate documents and balancing engagement economics with the occurrence of unanticipated issues;
  • Developing entrepreneurial and innovative mindset to identify new / existing client opportunities within Financial Markets and more broadly by teaming with other practices Firmwide;
  • Demonstrating ability to team well with colleagues, develop their technical acumen, build networks and foster trusted-advisor relationships with clients;
  • Leading teams by creating a positive environment;
  • Monitoring workloads of the team while meeting client expectations and respecting the work-life quality of team members;
  • Providing candid, meaningful feedback in a timely manner;
