Overview / Job Description

Job Summary:

The NU-Q IT Manager of Support Services plans, staffs, and supervises the NU-Q Help Desk responsible for front-level computing, mobile device, learning, and A/V event support for all NU-Q and central IT services to the NU-Q faculty, staff and students. The role is responsible for the delivery of NU-Q’s computing and mobile device management services.

Please note: This is an overseas position in Qatar, Middle East.

On call 24/7 and weekend maintenance and upgrade work schedule.

All final candidates will undergo a comprehensive background check.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Leads and motivates a customer-focused team that encompasses the Service Desk and Desktop Support functions to provide front-level support to Northwestern University faculty, staff, and students. Performs team management activities including recruiting, onboarding, training, evaluating, managing, and developing assigned staff and student employees. Promotes a team environment oriented to collaborative communication and innovative thinking.
  • Develops and monitors team and individual performance metrics to ensure that OLA and SLA targets are consistently met. Effectively measures user satisfaction with IT services, and works within the NU-Q community to improve services and satisfaction over time. Provides service delivery performance reports to IT management as scheduled or requested.
  • Advises University schools and departments about technology and the appropriate deployment of NU-Q and Northwestern IT services offerings. Consults with University schools and departments on appropriate new services that enhance delivery of support while recommending achievable goals and resource requirements. Participates in researching end-user device technologies that meet customer experience needs, including demonstrations of such technology.
  • Maintains academic service desk industry awareness and pursues professional development opportunities including presenting at and attending appropriate conferences and training.
  • Represents NU-Q IT at customer meetings, internal IT meetings, and meetings with distributed IT unit personnel. Effectively contributes to NU-Q IT project efforts including community communication, online service catalog management and metrics. Assigns team members to projects as required while also providing guidance and support to achieve project goals.
  • Participates in strategic planning, continuous service improvement and annual budget planning discussions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field or equivalent education and experience is required.
  • Seven years’ experience in IT support with a track record of high performance and increasing responsibility.
  • Three years managing technical staff with direct responsibility for a reasonably sized team supporting information technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in ITIL key process areas.
  • Excellent staff management skills, including: Experience in selection and hiring of customer-focused staff members; Clear programs of staff development through training and mentoring; Clear expression of expectations, goals, and timelines, with appropriate delegation, monitoring of progress
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to clearly present technology solutions and services to non-technical staff and administrators.
  • Infrastructure (extends across applications): Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook), Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Analytical: critical thinking, decision making, judgment, problem solving, troubleshooting, use-case analysis.
  • Project: budgeting, collaboration and teamwork, functional documentation, organizational skills, planning, workflow development & documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful and effective relationships with management, co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of responsible parties throughout the University, either as a project leader or as a team member, to advance projects to timely and successful completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems from multiple points of view, to lead consensus building within groups with differing views, and to translate consensus into planned action.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with desktop computing and ticketing system environments
  • Ability to act on own initiative to further organizational and University goals.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Past experience in university or highly-decentralized corporate environment with career emphasis on planning and delivering end user support services.
  • ITIL V3 Certification.
  • HDI or PMP certification.

Overview / Job Description

Department: Counseling & Psych Serv
Salary/Grade: EXS/10

The Northwestern University in Qatar Therapist will provide counseling and wellness services to support Northwestern University in Qatar’s diverse student body. This includes counseling and psychological services, case management, crisis intervention, consultation to the Northwestern community, educational health and wellness programming, referrals to off campus health and wellness providers as necessary, collection and evaluation of student immunization records, coordination of student health insurance purchases, and administration of  medical leave of absence requests/reinstatements.

Specific Responsibilities:

Clinical Services

  • Provide brief therapy in individual and group settings for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide intakes, crisis management, triage, daytime walk-in emergency service, and assume on-call responsibilities for daytime and evening emergency services.
  • Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics of psychotherapeutic and other client contacts
  • Consult with parents, psychiatrists, physicians, faculty, academic deans, residence life staff, off-campus counseling services, other campus offices and students, when appropriate, and with appropriate authorization in order to provide quality care to students.
  • Make referrals to off-campus therapists, clinics, or hospitals, when appropriate.

Outreach and Education Programs

  • Serve as liaison to various programs and schools and provide outreach and education programs for students and campus partners.
  • Conduct other outreach and educational programming, as requested, including QPR trainings, Mental Health First Aid, orientation sessions for new students, workshop presentations, and emergency support services to the campus community.

Health Services

  • Provide, collect, and manage all required student immunization records and provide independent health insurance to all students.
  • Manage and evaluate student health promotion programs focused on topics to promote healthy lifestyles, health maintenance, and disease/injury prevention.

Miscellaneous

  • Attend and participate in regular Student Affairs staff meetings and Education City collaborations.
  • Represent NU-Q Counseling and Wellness at NU-Q and beyond, serve on NU-Q and Education City committees as appropriate and approved by the Director of Student Affairs.
  • Manage, assess, and develop Counseling and Wellness services in alignment with Northwestern University- Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) including, assessment, systems management, and program development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed Master’s or Doctoral degree in a counseling related field from an accredited program.
  • Licensed or license eligible in the country or state from which the advanced degree was conferred.
  • 3 years of experience (post-master’s/doctoral) of mental health counseling and crisis intervention in a university counseling center, or like environment.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating knowledge of social justice, and concepts of power, privilege, and oppression, into clinical services with diverse populations; including individuals from ethnically racially diverse backgrounds, those representing varying sexual orientations, and those with diverse religious identities.
  • Experience facilitating community/campus-based outreach services.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the specific developmental and other life issues facing undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ethical and legal issues in mental health practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, consulting as needed, and as a positive member of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain therapeutic relationships with students with mental health challenges and disabilities.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated service orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of experience (post-master’s/doctoral) of mental health counseling and crisis intervention in a comprehensive university counseling center, or like environment.
  • Experience working with students from the Middle East or varied cultural groups.
  • Experience leading open-ended process groups or structured theme-oriented groups.
  • Knowledge of and experience with evidenced based treatment modalities such as dialectical behavior therapy and/or cognitive-behavioral therapy.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering effectively and collegially on an inter-disciplinary team in a university counseling center, or like environment, and with other relevant entities associated with the institution.

  • Bilingual or multilingual language skills relevant to the Northwestern University in Qatar student body.
