Jackson Hewitt is looking for a Director of Accounting to join our team in Jersey City, NJ to help us collaborate with business leaders to provide guidance on strategic business transactions, assess accounting ramifications, develop accounting position papers and determine appropriate conclusions. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Director of Accounting will manage the close and reporting process, including all accounting-related functions and financial data of the Company.

What you’ll do here:

  • Lead main Accounting areas, including GL, Treasury, Tax and Internal Control.
  • Manage month-end close and year-end close and reporting cycle.
  • Maintain and develop accounting controls and procedures. Ensure accurate and timely financial reports and various internal & external reporting packages.
  • Provide analytical support to senior management to support key business decisions.
  • Manage, develop, and coach staff of both direct and indirect reports.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Assist in the development of the accounting business requirements for new product implementation; work with business partners to identify new processes and procedures along with any potential issues.
  • Perform ad hoc accounting and financial tasks as may be required from time to time.

Skills you’ll bring for success:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting. An MBA and/or CPA / Chartered Accountant preferred is preferred. Big 4 experience is a plus.
  • This role requires at least 10 years in roles of progressive responsibility in accounting and reporting.
  • Although not required, experience in or familiarity with the Financial Services and/or Retail sectors strongly preferred.
  • Prior audit experience is required.
  • Experience with Workday is preferred.
  • Ideal candidate must possess strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent communication skills, intermediate to advanced MS excel skills, acute business acumen, and an unmatched desire to succeed.
  • S/he must have the learning agility, initiative, and energy to both keep up with and contribute to the changing marketplace.
  • This role will require experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to adjust and respond to dynamic business conditions.
