Overview / Job Description

Purpose Statement:

The Equipment Services Manager (ESM) oversees and directs all day-to-day planning, executing and completion of departmental activities of the team. He/She is responsible for all manufacturing equipment maintenance programs, including the implementation and sustainment of our Total Productive Maintenance Program, machine and repair budgeting and strategic equipment life cycle management.  The ESM is also accountable for the performance of IDT and 3rd party custom manufacturing equipment used at the site.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages and supervises a team of Equipment Service Technicians (associates) on the day-to-day activities for our San Diego Main and Digital Biology Facility (DBF) equipment and machine groups.
  • Use formal management responsibilities to allocate resources and set daily priorities to meet operational objectives.  Ensures that all work instructions, logs, and process flows are kept current and initiates creation of additional documents when necessary.
  • Oversees and assists in the repair and preventive maintenance of all manufacturing equipment, includes identification, troubleshooting and setting direction on corrective course of action.
  • Accountable for driving, sustaining, and improving the Total Productive Maintenance Program (TPM) at IDT.
  • Liaison to outside service providers ensuring quoted work is completed timely and accurately.
  • Develops and monitors measurable objectives for the Equipment Services Department and ensures compliance with SOPs and workplace safety programs acts as necessary to correct negative deviations.
  • Collaborates cross functionally with other departments leaders and functions to ensure compliance to product specification and customer needs.
  • Creates opportunities for personnel to enhance department productivity and efficiency
  • Responsible for the development and monitoring of departmental quality objectives and KPIs.  Develops counter measures and actions plans to assure objectives remain on-target. Strives to improve engagement survey results through execution of the engagement action plan.
  • Manages personal activities and develops talent for area of responsibility, including the support in associate development, performance management, recruiting, hiring, training, salary review, associate performance evaluations and corrective actions/discipline.
  • Contribute to the process development process for review and/or functional layout planning of new equipment and processes related to future expansion projects.
  • Assures IDT Quality system requirements are met to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction, including ISO standards in place.
  • Responsible for the Equipment Services budget.   Participates in the annual budget cycle, monthly forecasting and manages accordingly to adhere to the financial targets.
  • Engages, participates, supports, and leads continuous improvement initiatives using Danaher Business System tools, such as Daily Management, 5S, Standard Work and others implemented at the San Diego sites.
  • Demonstrates and upholds behavior consistent with the Danaher Core Values and delivers the Integrated DNA Technologies experience to customers and other business associates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor or Technical degree required.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of operations/manufacturing in life science, medical device, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, or similar industries required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of previous management experience leading teams in Equipment Engineering, Equipment Services, or similar capacity required.
  • Managing and Leading teams of greater than 5 people across 24hr operations is preferred.

Other Job Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of Engineering Maintenance protocols and equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and advanced knowledge of mechanical repair techniques.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with customers, vendors, employees, and all levels of management.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to maintain several projects at one time.
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situation in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.
