Our client, a leading global investment management company with headquarters in Boston, MA is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer. This role will share responsibilities in a variety of technological areas including assisting in managing Windows account management, production contingency planning/ testing, and systems documentation.
The role includes providing technical support and guidance to end-users including hardware and software troubleshooting and coordinating vendor and third-party maintenance for network connectivity, software support, and telecommunications services.
The position requires on-site hours with additional on-call responsibilities as necessary. Morning availability is required for maintaining integrity of overnight data feeds, monitoring scheduled batch processing jobs, SQL loads and production infrastructure and resolving issues prior to market open. The ideal candidate should have experience with Windows & Linux OS, accompanied by skills in scripting (Powershell, VBScript, shell, etc.) Ability to lift at least 50lbs is a MUST.
Responsibilities:
Client Hardware – Administer and optimize desktop and laptop builds and hardware rollouts. Administer OS and software updates. Interface to desktop support groups. Contribute to desktop planning and hardware/software deployments such as version control and issues tracking packages
Application Support – Install, maintain and support financial trading applications and interface to 3rd party vendors and trading partners
Active Directory – User/group administration, message server account setup, group policy configuration to manage/enforce security
Contingency Planning – Help implement, monitor and adjust the system backup procedures to ensure that the corporation’s data and computer systems are recoverable. Involves maintaining and testing business continuance strategies and procedures; recommend and implement security structures necessary to protect the corporation’s system resources
User Support – Assist in providing technical assistance and support to users of the corporation’s computing environment, including desktop/laptop, printer and phone systems support
Document methodologies, issues and solutions
Requirements:
Experience with Windows and Linux administration
Experience with MSSQL and Postgres administration
Experience with creating scripts (Powershell, VBScript, shell, etc.)
Knowledge in network topologies would be extremely beneficial
Prior experience in front office equity buy side environment with experience in fund management, order management and trading applications is a plus, but not required
Excellent interpersonal skills are a necessity for this role
Ability to lift at least 50lbs
